We are a new, not for profit, organization located in Canmore Alberta and serving the Bow Valley. Our mission is to enrich lives one paw at a time through Therapeutic Dog Visits. Our visiting programs are a free service provided by our team of dogs and their human volunteers.
Therapy dogs that assist with therapeutic visitations are household pets whose owners take time out of their personal lives to visit hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centres and schools. Therapy dogs are trained and certified to provide comfort to patient in hospitals or those living or temporarily residing in retirement homes, nursing homes and hospices, to name a few places. They also comfort those with learning difficulties or people experiencing stressful situations such as natural disasters.
Research shows that interactions with therapy dogs increases oxytocin (chemicals responsible for bonding) and dopamine (chemicals responsible for happiness) levels while lowering levels of cortisol (the chemical responsible for stress) according to Psychology Today.
